Overall, The Thousandth Floor is an enjoyable read with dynamic characters and interesting dynamics. I feel like she just skimmed the surface of the conflict between the High Tower and the Low Tower, and can’t wait to see her go deeper. As I said earlier, I did like the different relationships and how she discussed class and class dynamics and I’m excited to see how she develops those ideas in the next book. It was interesting to see these characters grow – in both positive and negative ways – and how privilege can destroy lives just as easily as it can make it easier. Because of this, McGee’s characters and the interactions between them, especially the interactions between characters that are from different classes, are well developed and engaging. This is very much a character driven novel rather than a plot driven novel. It was so nice to see a YA novel that takes place in the future that isn’t a dystopian it was just very refreshing to read. Though there were some moments where I wished the layout of the tower was explained a bit more, the general idea of a thousand-floor tower where an entire city lives and the class system dynamics were unique and really interesting to read about.

The one aspect that I immensely enjoyed about this novel was the world building. It wasn’t like I didn’t enjoy the story, but I just kept comparing it to Gossip Girl and felt like I’ve read most of the story before. The plot, in general, doesn’t really pick up until the last twenty percent of the book or so.
